Doctor, haircut, errands and piano

I was up and out the door before most of the family was awake.  Only Andrew was up with me and when I left he was still the only one awake.  I found out later he went back to bed which I was happy to hear.

I went to the orthopedic doctor for my bunion and excruciating pain in my foot.  I was to the point of not sleeping well at night because I could put pressure on it at certain angles and it hurt to walk.  So I get there and they take x-rays and put me in the room.  A few minutes later, the doctor comes in and asks why I am there.  I start off with my bunion (since that was the original reason) and then I add in the pain in the middle of my foot.  She immediately notices the swelling and redness and asks what I did.  I told her I dropped a bowl on my foot.  She proceeds to tell me that I have a broken bone in my foot.  She shows it to me on x-ray.  Then we talk about my loose ligaments which I have had all my life she says (that explains how I am still so flexible even as I age) and we talk about the nerve contusion which is related to the broken bone.

She puts me in a boot (because the swelling is so bad and because I need the ability to drive for the next 4 weeks), she tells me to get an arch support, gives me a topical pain medicine and tells me to elevate and heat as much as possible for the next 2 weeks and take it easy for 4.  I return in 4 weeks to check the break.  In the mean time I can also work on the bunion which includes getting a toe shield to stop the bunion from rubbing on my shoes, arch support and getting better shoes.  She did not like my shoes (I wore the best ones - she should see the ones I usually wear)  A couple pictures here would be a good idea.

Then I was finished and I went to my hair appointment but I was 45 minutes early so I sat in the car and read.  I would have gone home but I would have spent about 15 minutes at home before having to turn around and go back and it would have wasted gas so I just sat and read.  It was nice.

Afterwards, I ran to the store all by myself.  When I got home, everyone was very fascinated with my boot.  I made lunch, relaxed a few minutes and then headed out to get my prescription.  When we got back I put it on and did some heat - oh boy did that feel good.  I was ready to go to sleep it was so relaxing and pain free.  But I had to take Cairn to piano, we headed out early to try to get my arch support but the store was n o longer in business so we went to Target to finish up Andrew's Christmas present.  Since she knows the secret, she can be in on the present buying and she loves that.

For piano, I got to sit in the car and read some more.  I was really enjoying reading my History magazine and learning about Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie and Vanderbilt.  Did you know that Henry Ford was very green?  He used the packing boxes that the pieces came in on the cars.  He had the boxes built to a specific dimensions and when they arrived at the factory, they had to take the boxes apart carefully.  No crowbars allowed and then the pieces of the box went onto the car.  While we were at the library today, I got a couple more books on Henry Ford.  I love being a homeschooler because it is just as cool for me to be reading and doing research as it is for the kids.  I am a good role model for them.  I find something interesting and I want to research more I do it and talk about it with the kids.  When we got home, Andrew saw the book on Henry Ford and asked why I got it.  I explained why and he asked me to read it to him.  I hooked him!!

Tonight, we watched a video about stranger safety.  It was a good movie for even Dad and I to watch.  We kept pausing the movie and discussing some points and even practiced a couple things.  Such as yelling, "This is not my Mom." if a stranger approached and got inside our circle of safety.  We will probably watch it again before I have to return it to the library.
