Full week and homework

Today started our first full week back to school.  We did well.

I let the kids sleep in since everyone has been ill but they were up by 8 AM on their own.  We had breakfast then headed out on our bike ride.  I am trying to incorporate some big physical movement in the morning to wake everyone up and get the blood flowing to the brain.  It also helps Andrew get ready to sit for a bit.

After returning, everyone sat down and got right to work.

Cairn worked on her Spanish (she is working hard to stay ahead of Uncle Mait), her math, and did some research on ciphers and cryptology.  Her writing assignment this week is to write a secret code.  She also started her Latin/Greek study.

Skylar worked on her math, handwriting, and her reading.

Andrew worked on math, handwriting, and speech.

Together, we did Science and continued our study of astronomy.  We talked about the difference between the night and day sky, watched some videos about our solar system to learn about orbits.  We watched one video that talked about Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter.  Did you know that the moon changes shape as it orbits Jupiter because of the gravitational pull?  It also is covered in ice and they think that under about 15 miles of ice is an ocean with life.  The kids had to draw a picture of the day time sky and then they had homework tonight and had to draw the night time sky.  They liked having homework.  They were so cute!

On Mondays, we study Geography so we discussed maps, watched some videos on the different types of maps.  Then we created treasure maps - the kids hid things from someone else's room and then gave them a map to find their item.  They also created a map of their room.  Andrew did his with Lego's - I have a picture to post, Skylar cut out pictures from magazines for her room and Cairn drew hers.

We were supposed to go to the pool this afternoon but we didn't make it.  Only 2 more weeks of the pool, our days have filled up so we shall see if we make it back.
