Fox Theatre and Ameritowne

We went across town to a free theatre event at Fox Theatre with our homeschool group.  We got to see the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance group.  I didn't know beforehand what we were going to see so I was really excited when we found out it was dances from around the world and the holidays they celebrate in the fall/winter.

We saw dances from Africa such as Funga Alafia (here are the words and music) It is a welcome song.  Then we watched a Native American dance about the Winter Solstice.  As you know their stories always involve animals and this time spider brought back the sun.  Cairn found that interesting because we had read several stories about Ashanti the spider.  We also saw dances to celebrate Hanukkah, Lost Posadas, Diwali  and finally New Year's Day in the Bahamas.

The dancers taught us several of the dances too.  That was a lot of fun.  I didn't take any pictures because I don't know how to take pictures without a flash but my friend Liese took pictures - check out her blog here

After the show we drove to the other side.of town to get Cairn to her Ameritowne class.  Since it was so beautiful again I stayed outside with the littles while they played on the playground.  Skylar met a couple new friends and Andrew just had a great time running around and climbing.

After class I asked one of the teachers how Cairn did on her interview. She told me that she didn't get to interview today because she didn't do her homework.  I asked what homework and that is when I found out that every week they had sent out emails about homework.  I had not received a single email so needless to say Cairn is a little behind in what everyone else has learned.  Guess what our schoolwork will be for the next several days.  Crash course in Ameritowne.  I printed out the emails tonight so tomorrow we will start working our way through her missing homework.
