Today we were up and ready to get on the road to get to our next park - Canyonlands National Park but first we had to earn our Junior Ranger badges. For some reason, Andrew didn't want to earn his today - I think he will regret that decision later.
After the girls got their badges and I stamped our Passport book we were on the road. It was a short 2 hour drive but Cairn and I got carsick for some reason. After checking in at the Ranger station and getting our new Junior Ranger books - Skylar, Andrew, Bob and Dad went on a hike to Upheaval Dome. Cairn and I stayed at the trailhead. We read quietly and worked on Cairn's Junior Ranger book.
It was another hot day. Everyone was thankful when the clouds came over but they were short lived as they quickly moved on and the sun returned.
The kids love to find the cairns along the way.
Almost to the top.
Some more hills to climb.
Finally, made it.
After they returned we drove to White Rim overlook to look down. The Island in the Sky part of the park is fascinating. To look down and see what used to be underwater is just beyond words.
Can you spot the old mine road? It is straight.
It was taken over 50 years to recover to what you see today but you can still see the scar. This really helped the kids to understand why we always stay on the trail because it takes many, many years to repair the damage.
We made it back to the Ranger station just before they closed so we could turn in our books. Andrew even got his today. Then we drove about an hour into Moab to check into our hotel for the night.
We went out to dinner at the Peace Tree Cafe and then back to the hotel for swimming. Finally, showers and into bed.
