School, Haircut and Yoga

We woke up to an unexpected snow. We had 1/2 an inch when we woke up at 3 inches by the time the snow stopped at noon.

We stayed at home doing schoolwork until 11:30 when we left to get Andrew to his haircut.  He was having trouble seeing through all that hair.  Yes, I should have taken a picture but for some reason didn't think of it until now and he is fast asleep.  But he looks super cute now.  I will get one tomorrow.

We returned home for lunch and then off to quiet time.  I had a talk with Andrew on Monday that he is big enough and brave enough to do quiet time in his room.  He usually hangs near me or begs me to lay down with him.  I read and he falls asleep.  So anyway, I had the talk yesterday and for the last 2 days he has played quietly in his room with no problems.  He doesn't come out a lot and he doesn't ask over and over if the time is almost over.  I do stay in the TV room or kitchen so he can look out his room and see me.  I think that helps ease his anxiety.  He comes out of quiet time much more relaxed and ready for the rest of the afternoon.

We finished up our schoolwork and checklists - I walked everyone through their checklists and made sure they did each thing.

Cairn continues to work on multiplying 3 digit numbers, spelling, her book and research skills.  Skylar worked on subtraction, handwriting and how to take good pictures.  Andrew worked on counting to 50, odd and even numbers and building numbers.  He also worked on counting to 10 in Korean.  He can get to 6 all by himself.  He is also doing really well in piano and has learned his new song already, now he just has to memorize it.

We picked up C from school and went to yoga.  After we dropped off the girls, we borrowed a ball and went into a racquetball court to play soccer.  We had a great time kicking the ball back and forth in a small area.  It was nice that the ball didn't go too far away but we still had to run after it.  A little boy joined us and both boys played nicely together.  Andrew seems to have a natural interest in soccer.  He was able to dribble and pass the ball with no instruction from me.

We played for about 30 minutes before someone needed the court.  Then we headed up to get the girls and head home.  There is an aerobics class right after the girls' yoga class.  I was standing in the room waiting for the girls to get their shoes on while these women came in to get ready for their class.  A woman looks at me and asks, "this is a yoga class for kids?"  She didn't ask it nicely either, it was more like I can't believe they waste this space on kids.  I looked at this other mother that was picking up her child and just smiled.  When we got outside, she asked me why that woman was so upset.  I said I didn't know but was surprised that she was so upset.  The mother and I agreed that teaching kids to exercise early and for a lifetime is a good thing.  I wonder why she was so upset.

Tomorrow is Tae Kwon Do!!

School, Yoga and Basketball

This morning, we got right to work this morning on our schoolwork so the girls could go to yoga this afternoon.  If you don't finish your schoolwork you don't get to do the extra classes.

Everyone finished their schoolwork by lunch, so we ate and watched some Mythbusters and then headed upstairs for quiet time.

Cairn is working on scientific notation in math, writing a book, learning dictionary and Encyclopedia skills and her Spanish.  I still believe in the old fashioned dictionary skills so all of them will learn them.

Before yoga, we headed to Target to get our yoga mats and then we had to pick up C so she could go too.  She was super excited about going to class with the girls.  I let her borrow my mat.

While the girls were in yoga, Andrew and I ran the track for 1/2 a mile and then played basketball.  Andrew had never played basketball so I tried to teach him to dribble but he was more interested in trying to hit a basket.  I showed him a couple time and he tried throwing the ball into the basket

All of a sudden, he stopped and watched the boys around him play for about 3 minutes.  I knew exactly what he was doing so I watched him watch the boys.  Then he turns around and

bends down, then...

jumps up and throws the ball.

Since I don't know anything about basketball I didn't think to show him the jump.  But Andrew is too smart and he knew he was doing something wrong so he stopped to learn and then imitate.  Always my little imitator.

After we played and watched for a bit we had to return to the girl's room to get them and I wanted to take a few pictures.

For some reason, the pictures of Skylar all turned out blurry.  I was sitting at a tough angle and I didn't want to move around the classroom and disrupt.  I will keep trying because all 3 girls loved their class.  Cairn appeared much more relaxed after class.
