Ambulance Ride

Today started off pretty slowly with Andrew waking at his usual 6:30 AM and Skylar not waking until 9:15 AM.  We did a little schoolwork and then Skylar headed off to her last piano class until the Fall.  While we were at class, my babysitter/friend texts me that Andrew has fallen and hit his head.  No biggie.

When I get home 30 minutes later, Cairn meets me at the door like usual but no Andrew.  I ask where Andrew is and they say he is sleeping.  I run upstairs to check on him because you never let a kid sleep after hitting their head right?

I get to his room and I can't wake him.  I shake him, yell his name.  I go to get the phone to call Dad and tell everyone in the house I can't wake him.  The girls come upstairs and they try to wake him - yell in his ear.  I keep shaking him and yelling his name.  He doesn't budge or move his eyes or anything so I call 911.

3 minutes later a police officer is first on scene (they send the police first because when a child is involved they suspect child abuse).  He is able to wake Andrew fairly quickly.  He lets me pick him up and carry him downstairs to the paramedics.  They check him out.  They don't think he is coming around very well so they transport him to the hospital in the ambulance.  Andrew wanted me to go with him but I needed to take the girls and have a way to get everyone home afterwards so we follow behind the ambulance.

We get to the hospital and Andrew gets checked out.  He has a mild concussion and they can't determine if he was asleep or unconscious when I found him.  One doctor said he may have been unconscious and another says he was just sleeping hard.  Andrew typically isn't hard to wake.

After an hour and 30 minutes they let us leave with head injury directions and he has been fine ever since.  He ate fine, no vomiting and was active the rest of the day.

Cairn made it to Book Club.  I fed the kids at 5:45 (not 5 because that is what time I picked her up from Book Club) and when Dad got home we headed out to the park.

As Dad said as we were riding home listening to Skylar sing as she rode her bike, "Life is pretty good."
