We had a nice weekend with no one sick. Saturday during the day we hung out at home so I can catch up on some of my work still. Dad was gone at his class. Saturday was Grandma's birthday too so the kids and I took her out to dinner and then to the Improv Show. We were supposed to go to a new Indian restaurant but we couldn't find it (Dad took my GPS so I only had the directions printed off of mapquest) so we ended up at Thai Basil. We had excellent food. The kids had a mild vegetable with tofu entree and Grandma and I shared a sesame tofu with broccoli entree. It was very good except we would have liked a little more spice. Then for dessert we all shared a 3 layer chocolate mousse cake. It was excellent.
Then we headed across the street to the theatre but we went to see the Colorado Improv group. I noticed that the kids understood a lot more this time around. They laughed a lot more.
Funny story - There was this little girl - maybe 3 - who was sitting behind Andrew. She was making a ton of noise by blowing raspberries, putting her hands over her mouth and blowing - just making noise. Andrew turned around once and asked her to be quiet. He turned around again and asked. Then he turned around a third time and told her to be quiet. She kept right on doing it. He kept getting louder and louder but she kept on making the noise. Her brother tried to stop her - she didn't stop. Mom finally came over and she stopped until she walked away. The little girl started up again, Andrew turned around and yelled at her to stop it. She wouldn't so he walked away - in front of the actors - yelling "she is not a nice girl." He came over and sat on Grandma's lap for the rest of the show. He tried really hard to use his words but she just wouldn't listen. I like how he problem solved though.
Weird story - About 3 PM yesterday, Cairn started complaining about her ear hurting. It kept getting worse and worse. We picked up Grandma she complained. We went to dinner she complained. We were at the show, she complained. During intermission, I asked my friends who were also at the show and homeschoolers if they had any ideas of how I could help Cairn. One friend suggested wet socks. She explained that when we got home to get a pair of cotton socks and get them wet with warm water, put them on Cairn's feet and then put a pair of wool socks over the wet ones. By morning, the earache will be gone. I explained it to Cairn when we got home and at first she said no. Then right before I said goodnight she decided she wanted to try it. This morning, I awoke to, "Mom, it worked, my ear doesn't hurt." Amazing and weird.
Sunday was a work day for me. I needed to get school ready and run a couple errands. Skylar spent the day at C's house playing. Cairn ran to the library with me and Andrew went to the mall with me to get him some new overalls. He prefers to wear them most days and since they were starting to get pretty small I decided to get him some new ones. Right now is a good time for sales at The Children's Place and Carter's. He got 2 pairs of overalls, 3 shirts and new socks. Cairn got some new pants because she is just growing like a weed. She wasn't happy about her new pants. She hates change so much that she doesn't even like giving up clothes that don't fit anymore. Next time I won't involve her in the process - I will just start switching the pants or shirts out. They were the exact kind she likes - it is all about the change. Skylar got a couple pairs of capri pants for the Spring.
As we were driving home, I wanted to find this spa I had found online to use one of my Christmas gifts (thanks Uncle Mait). The spa was next door to an Indian grocery store. I had to check it out. Inside were these HUGE bags of dal (lentils), rice and spices. The prices? Cheaper than what I pay for small amounts. The owner walked Andrew and I around the store explaining the set up and how to find things. The place was very clean and smelled terrific. Andrew kept asking where is the naan? Since I didn't have a shopping list, we left with only naan and lentil fritters. But I will definitely be back We also found a new yogurt place. So some very exciting finds this afternoon.
For dinner, I made madras curry with tofu and peas, lentil fritters and naan. Cairn, Dad and I loved it - the other 2 take a couple exposures before they will like something new. I fed Andrew a couple bites and he didn't complain.

Busy Saturday
We decided to start the new year off with a busy Saturday.
First, Dad took the kids to Home Depot to get this month's project. They even went to 2 different stores to get enough projects for N and C. They couldn't go because they were skiing today.
When they got home, one by one they worked with Dad to make a birdhouse. Skylar immediately painted hers.
Andrew ended up falling asleep during the performance. Music always relaxes him.
After the library we went home for dinner and then headed down to the Puppet Theatre for Improv night. Cairn and I thought it was hilarious but the littles didn't care for it much. A lot of it was over there head but they sat through it. The last 30 minutes was the toughest because they both kept asking how much longer? We headed home afterwards and went straight to bed since it was 10 PM. Dad was home sick in bed.
