This week hasn't been all that exciting so I have fallen behind in blogging. We just seem to be working on our routine and enjoying the slowness of the days.
Wednesday we had a rough morning with everyone but culminated in Andrew being especially mean to me and calling me a "meanie". This resulted in him not being able to participate in Tae Kwon Do class. He seemed to think that that meant he just got to go off and play. I got everyone in the car and drove to the Rec Center in time for class. He kept asking why we were at the Rec Center. He knew that was where his class was held. I told him as we walked through the door that he would be sitting in class but not participating and he would have to tell his teacher why. He did a fantastic job. He sat quietly on my lap the entire class watched, then afterwards he explained to his teacher.
"I couldn't come to class today because I didn't do my schoolwork and I was mean to my mom."
Mr. Cody did a great job of saying he understood why and he hoped that he would make better choices next time and reminded him to do his schoolwork, listen to his mom and respect what she says. I was impressed and grateful that he supported what I did.
Andrew had a much better attitude the rest of the day and was very helpful and kind.
The rest of the day was pretty normal with lunch, quiet time and finishing up schoolwork.
Thursday we were supposed to do our schoolwork but instead watched Dr. Doolittle in the morning and then did our playdate afternoon. Skylar headed off to A's house while the other 2 went to piano class. After piano class, we headed home for Cairn's playdate. Z came to our house this week. Andrew and I did his schoolwork while the girls played.
At 6:15, the doorbell rang. All the kids went running to the door yelling, "C". I thought to myself it is a little late for her to be coming over. We answered the door and it was C and she was holding her dog. She said, "D told me to come down here and bring Lola." I invited her in and wondered what was going on. 3 minutes later, the doorbell rang again. This time it was D and her daughter - "we have a gas leak in the house and we are waiting for Xcel to come turn off the gas." Now, I understood.
2 hours later, everyone was back at their houses and we were heading to bed.
Friday, Andrew let me sleep in until 7 AM and then got started on his schoolwork right away. He was finished by 9:30. The girls woke up late so it was easy to keep him on task.
Skylar got her haircut in the morning. Andrew had a playdate at a friends house. His very first playdate where he got dropped off all by himself and Mom left. I was very proud of him and he was proud of himself. He did ask me to come in for a few minutes but when I saw he was clinging to me instead of playing, I left. No problems.
Tonight, Skylar had an extra long piano class to prepare for her recital and C is spending the night. The kids are watching a movie and then headed to bed.
Even though it was a pretty uneventful week, we did a lot of things right. We worked hard on making sure we completed our schoolwork (except Thursday but the girls did double assignments on Friday and completed all of their work for the week). We went to bed on time every night. We got out to exercise several days. We worked on learning our checklists. I worked hard on giving out positives instead of focusing on the negative. I took time for myself during quiet time and read or did something that I WANTED to do not that NEEDED to be done. Hopefully, as the weather continues to warm up, the days get longer, we will continue on our positive streak.
