Yesterday we had Girl Scouts in the morning, where we played games and talked about our Ghana celebrates New Year's. We had a short celebration at noon when our meeting ended and we knew that Pakistan was also celebrating the new year.
We found out that Ghana spends the day dancing in the streets, then in the evening they attend church. At church, people give testimony about their blessing from the previous year. They aren't worried about what is happening in the new year but thankful for what they have/had. I really liked that idea so I incorporated it into our evening plans.
On New Year's Eve, I like everyone to get together to talk about what we are going to accomplish in the New year. This year I started off with what we were thankful for. There was a long list but the most memorable ones were: Daddy going to work and telling us stories about his job, homeschooling and our family and friends. Then we moved into what we want to do - we want to do a lot of traveling, improve our eating habits and exercise more. All three seem to center on improving our health so I think the theme for 2013 will be HEALTH.
Today didn't start off to healthy though. Skylar, Andrew and I all felt crummy when we woke up and by the evening Dad was feeling rotten too. We will see what happens.
Tonight we enjoyed our favorite New Year's meal - black eyed peas and quinoa croquettes with mushroom gravy, black eyed peas, cabbage and chocolate fondue. Hopefully, this will bring us good luck in 2013.
I have a rough plan for how school will be for the next month and I left plenty of room for changes and improvements. I am focusing on learning in a fun and inspirational way.
