Cappy goes bird banding

Since I am still recovering from my surgery, and I am not allowed to drive and I can't stay awake more than 2 hours - Cappy took Cairn to bird banding today.

He had a very exciting day as they had some rare birds in the nest.

They caught a very large Belted Kingfisher.  The first kingfisher ever caught at the Chatfield banding station.

Look at that beak!

Northern Parula
Cappy saw a total of 17 birds -

1 Belted Kingfisher
3 Gray Catbirds
1 Northern Parula
6 Yellow Warbler
1 Yellow breasted chat
1 Lazuli Bunting
4 Lesser Goldfinches

They closed the station today so Cappy got to help take down the nets, poles and load all the supplies into Meredith's car.  They came home exhausted.

Tomorrow they leave for Nebraska.

  1. Had a great time with Cairn. Cappy
